The Hydro Majestic began as the vision of retail innovator Mark Foy, who sought to establish a hydropathic retreat high in the Blue Mountains. Construction commenced in 1901, and the hotel opened in 1904 with its own power plant, water supply and modern engineering — a remarkable achievement for its time. Over the decades, its domes, towers and Art Deco details became signatures of the region’s architectural story.
The hotel has welcomed travellers, creatives and cultural figures who were drawn to its setting and hospitality. Its history includes periods of reinvention, times of adversity and years of quiet restoration, all of which have contributed to the character seen today. Spaces such as the Casino Lobby, Salon du Thé and the Majestic Ballroom carry the echoes of the past while continuing to host new generations of guests.
The property extends along the ridge above the valley, offering uninterrupted views across the escarpment and glimpses of ever-changing mountain light. These outlooks are central to its identity, shaping the experience of arrival, dining and quiet moments throughout the hotel.
